Tiptonville is a town in and the county seat of Lake County, located in northwest Tennessee. Tiptonville covers a total of 2.035 square miles and has a population of 4,272. According to the latest census, there were 918 households and 570 families residing in the town. The town was established in 1857, but was not incorporated until 1900. There are currently 415 registered sex offenders residing in the town.

Tiptonville operates with a Mayor-Aldermanic form of local government. Members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen are elected officials. The current mayor is Mr. Cliff Berry Jr.
