The Athens Police Department is a law enforcement agency located in Tennessee. The department is composed of 4 divisions: administration, animal control, patrol and special services. The administration division is responsible for records, reports and any questions regarding the municipal court. Animal control officers are fully sworn with the same authority as other police officers. When they are not enforcing city ordinances on animal control, they perform the duties of a regular patrol officer. The patrol division is composed of the officers who are available 24 hours a day when citizens need assistance. The special services division includes the department’s criminal investigation unit, school resource officers and the directed patrol unit.
