The communications division is the primary control center for the police department, fire department, ambulance service and utilities throughout Smyrna. The records division is responsible for the entry, maintenance, and storage of all records pertaining to the department. The administration division consists of the command staff of the division. The criminal investigations division conducts investigations of all crime scene and narcotics related cases. The patrol division is the largest of the department. Smyrna is a city in Rutherford County, located in central Tennessee. The county seat of Rutherford County is Murfreesboro. The city covers 31.64 square miles and has a population of 49,552. The population is part of the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was incorporated in 1869. There are currently 53 registered sex offenders residing in Smyrna.
