Franklin is located in central Tennessee. The city is the county seat of Williamson County. Franklin covers a total of 42.96 square miles and has a population of 77,939. It is the 7th largest city in the state of Tennessee. Franklin was incorporated in 1699. There are currently 43 registered sex offenders residing in the city.

Franklin operated with a Board of Mayor and Aldermen as their form of local government. The current mayor is Dr. Ken Moore. Moore is the 31st mayor and second physician to head the city. Moore was first elected in 2007 as an alderman at large.
