Dyer is located in north central Tennessee. The city is located in Gibson County. The county seat of Gibson is Trenton. Dyer covers a total of 2.29 square miles and has a population of 2,791. The city was incorporated in 1899. There are currently 12 registered sex offenders residing in the city.

Dyer operates with a Board of Mayor and Aldermen form of government. There are 8 aldermen. The current mayor is Dr. Raymond E. Carroll. Carroll was sworn in as mayor in 2021. Before being elected mayor, Carroll served on the Board of Aldermen twice. The first time was from 1997 to 2003 and the second time was from 2015 to 2021. Carroll’s term expired on December 31st of 2022.
