Bolivar is located in south Tennessee, in Hardeman County and is also the county seat. The town covers a total of 8.12 square miles and has a population of 5,031. The town was established in 1825. There are currently 20 registered sex offenders residing in Bolivar.

The current mayor of the town is Julian Anderson McTizic Sr., a native of Bolivar. He was sworn in on July 1st, 2017. Mr. McTizic Sr. is the first African-American mayor of Bolivar.
