How to Send Mail to an Inmate

Inmates are allowed to receive mail sent through the U.S. Postal Service. Letters must be written on white paper with blue or black ink only and have a complete return address on them. Softcover books and magazines are allowed as long as they come directly from the distributor. All mail will be searched for contraband.

Commissary deposits can be made in person, over the phone or online. To make a deposit in person, visit the kiosk located in either of the jail lobbies. To make a deposit over the phone, call 1-855-836-3364. The Shelby County Jail uses a 3rd party provider called Jail Funds. To make a deposit online, visit the Jail Funds website.

Visitation Hours

Inmates are allowed visitation in person or virtually. In person visits are first come, first served.

Internet visitation is available through a 3rd party provider called GTL VisBridge. Visits must be scheduled in advance online and the company charges a fee. Scheduling availability is shown during the scheduling process.

Onsite visits:

7 days a week, 8 am to 12 pm or 3 pm to 7 pm

The Shelby County Jail updates their inmate roster every hour. A full list of inmates is not available. The public can search for an inmate using their first and last name or booking number.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office offers a public warrant search. Anyone can search for an individual’s warrant as long as they have their first and last name.
